Ti’s the season! We hope all you Comets have been enjoying your break off and are excited for the holidays just around the corner. Last Friday night we hosted our first ever tournament, Winter Smash Tournament, featuring the brand new Super Smash Ultimate game on the Nintendo Switch. This was our first event and we thought to do something special for the students during the break to get them together – and what’s a better way to do that than having an online video game tournament?

We had a total of 13 students join in the online tournament and had them battle 1v1 through brackets. We live-streamed the event on our Twitch Channel, and the event overall lasted for nearly 3 hours! The first place winner was UT Dallas Student Christopher Sweetman “Akito”. Christopher won our first ever tournament, along with the grand prize $50.00 VISA Gift Card. Congrats Chris!

Hey you… you like events?

Now that I have your attention… next semester we will be doing LAN Tournaments and Events right on the UT Dallas campus! We’re crafting up the ideas and organization that goes behind in hosting events right now, however, we’re looking at some awesome stuff to come for our Comets! I can’t give a 100% confirmation on this… but we may be looking into an annual Comet Cup for Overwatch and other popular games – so keep an eye out! 😉 Be sure to join our Discord Server at https://discord.gg/utdesports for the latest info and to give your input! We want ALL STUDENTS TO JOIN US ON DISCORD, so be sure to invite your friends and have fun!
