This past week, the brand new Esports Stadium in Arlington (the largest dedicated esports stadium in North America) hosted a League of Legends Kickoff Tournament at their stadium. The tournament was open invite and a total of 20 teams all around Texas came up to participate. Overall the event was quite an experience as it was the first LAN tournament for some of our new athletes with the roster changes for the Spring 2019 Semester.

The University of Texas at Dallas Esports’ A & B League of Legends Teams both played very well as they worked their way up in the group brackets to the semi-finals against the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington, and Abilene Christian University. UT Dallas defeats their opponents in the semi-finals and both A & B Teams make it to the finals! This was quite an exciting event for us as Head Coach Greg Adler was running around with hype chanting on both teams as we won our first finals event as both teams.

Entering the finals, both Coach Greg and Assistant Coach Eric cheer on and spectate the A & B Teams, however, do not give leads to any of the teams as they wanted to see the outcome of the two teams against each other. Both teams had very strong team communications and player skills, as this was their final game of the night (or should I say morning as the tournament went until 2:00 AM in the morning). B Team’s mid-laner, Erick Quintilla, was fully concentrated in the final match and helped give clear callouts against the A Team’s defenses as they approached upward against their opponents’ nexus. B Team gets quite the kills at the beginning of the match to get a fair headstart on A Team, push past the enemy defenses and destroys their nexus – having them as the 1st place champions of the tournament!

The results of the tournament leave the University of Texas at Dallas Esports Team at 1st Place with our League of Legends B Team and 2nd place with our A Team! The boys played very well that night and early morning and were happy to take home the trophy!
